Sean Puckett – Random Word Generator

I teach cartooning classes during the summers and one of the first things I try to get the students to do is to come up with a lot of characters very quickly. In the past, I’ve started with simple geometric doodles that I’ve handed out to each student, who then makes a character out of it in a minute or so. That student then passes his/her design on to the student to the right, who then changes the design then passes it on, etc.

But tomorrow I’m going to try a new technique to generate similar results, hopefully: nonsense names.

I’m going to have the students draw characters based on nonsense words. I’ll do this “drill sergeant” style, pacing around the room barking out foolish names and yelling “STOP!!!” every 60 seconds or so. Anyway, I’ve never done this before, but the online software linked above is a great resource for inspiration. Here are the nonsense names I’ve got so far:

Boxing Bucket Couch Comic, final page

Here’s the tragic conclusion to the Boxing Bucket couch comic. The original final line, written by Chris Reilly, was “Though I will always admire the way he devoured those who opposed him, I will remember him for how his dead hand reached for one last drink,” but I had to just use the last section of it since I left so little room for text in the last panel.

I intend to get as much mileage out of this story as possible and will turn it into a mini-comic, hopefully this week before the HeroesCon in Charlotte, and I’ll likely submit it to this year’s SPX anthology as well.

SLG + Disney

It seems that my sometime publisher Slave Labor Graphics has got some sort of deal going now with Disney and will be publishing four books featuring Disney properties. My invitation to work on this project no doubt got lost in the mail (Haw! Haw! Haw!), but I’m sure this is a “look” for the Tron book they’d really dig:
