With SPX 2009 right around the corner, my blog reader(s) is(are) probably wondering: why hasn’t Ben done his usual “what I’m selling and where I’m sitting” post? The answer is simple. I’m not selling anything and I’m not sitting anywhere this year (except perhaps at the hotel bar after the show).
I’d initially purchased a table, as I usually do, but as the show approached, I realized that I really didn’t have anything new to sell this year. I figure anyone who wants a copy of Farewell, Georgia or Midnight Sun has probably already bought one, I’m not really doing minis any more, and the Amelia book won’t be out until this winter. So I canceled my table and I’m just going to attend this year as a “civilian.” I’m actually more excited about SPX now than I have been in years.
The first time I attended SPX as an exhibitor was 2003, right after Farewell, Georgia was released–and the last year SLG exhibited at the show. Ever since then, I’ve spent every show stuck behind my table for the whole weekend. This year, though, for the first time since 2002, I’m going to be able to see some panels, walk around and talk to folks, and just generally relax and enjoy the show as an attendee, not worrying about whether I’m selling anything… and even (gasp!) taking a half-hour breather in my hotel room if things start to get overwhelming.
If you see me there, say Hi!

Man, now I extra wish I were going. It would be cool to be able to hang out for a while instead of just jawing briefly at your table and keeping you from selling while we talk. But I ain’t going this year: it’s too hard to get away from my classes. Dang.
