Portrait Night 8/30 (Paul Westerberg)

I’d decided that this #PortraitNight drawing was such a lost cause that I’d printed out a couple of pictures of Tommy Stinson, thinking that I’d just scrap the Paul drawing and start again. Unfortunately, I realized that I really didn’t have time for that, so I just powered ahead with what I had on the page. What can I say? They can’t all be winners. And, hey, if there’s any band that’s an appropriate recipient of a drawing that’s a bit of a sloppy mess, it’s The Replacements. Even if the drawing isn’t great, it was well worth the exercise for me since, in Googling around for images, I discovered this great resource: The Replacements Bible.

Please Support the Chain World Kickstarter Project

Well, it looks like I’m dipping my tippy-toes into the world of Kickstarter. I’m one of the “five industry artists” in A. Dave Lewis’s fascinating and ambitious “Chain World” project. The project is unlike pretty much anything I’ve seen attempted comics-wise, so rather than try to explain it here, please just go check out the Kickstarter page:

Chain World – A Free-Form Comic Book Experiment

(For those not in the know, Kickstarter is a service/system by which private individuals can directly fund creative projects.)

One of the “prizes” for backers is a hour-long online art lesson from me. I suggested basic perspective because that’s something I’ve taught a lot. I’m certainly willing, though, to do an hour-long lesson about pretty much anything a potential donor might be interested in–just contact me in advance. Possible subjects could be things like “graphic novel: start to finish,” “basic inking tools and techniques,” etc.
