2007 Harvey Award Nominating Ballots

I’ve always considered it somewhat unseemly to vote for oneself in award ceremonies… However, that doesn’t prevent me from imploring others to vote for me in such ceremonies!

So, if you’re a comics industry professional, you’re eligible to vote for this year’s Harvey Award nominees, from whom the winners will eventually be chosen after a second round of voting. And if you liked MIDNIGHT SUN, then consider yourself officially “implored” to vote for it.

Potential categories are:

BEST CARTOONIST

BEST NEW TALENT (I’m not exactly “new,” but based on past nominees, I’d guess I qualify.)

BEST NEW SERIES

BEST CONTINUING OR LIMITED SERIES

You can download a PDF of the ballot here and read general info about the award here.

They’re due in by April 4th, which is just around the corner, though, so you may want to download the ballot as a Word document and just email it in (the email address is listed inside the document).

Update:

I hadn’t really had a chance to ruminate on last year’s books until I filled out my Harvey ballot this morning. Conclusion: 2006 had some damn good books. Here are a few items I voted for in various categories:

Alice – SLG/Tommy Kovac, Sonny Lieu

Billy Hazelnuts – Fantagraphics/Tony Millionaire

Glenn Ganges – Kevin Huizenga/Fantagraphics

Dork # 11 – Evan Dorkin/SLG

Dr. Strange: The Oath – Marvel

Usagi Yojimbo – Stan Sakai/Dark Horse

Isaac the Pirate vol. 2 – Chritophe Blain

Project Romantic – Adhouse

The Trouble with Igor – Chris Reilly, Gus Fink/SLG

I Yam what I Yam: Popeye Vol. I – E.C. Segar/Fantagraphics

Scrubland – Joe Daly/Fantagraphics

The Mourning Star – Kazimir Strzepek/Bodega

Abandon the Old in Tokyo – Yoshihiro Tatsumi/D&Q

I also recanted and shamelessly voted for myself in a single category: Best Continuing or Limited Series. More important, I voted for Shadowlands by Kim Dietch in pretty much every category I could wedge it into. I think it was probably my favorite book of original material last year. Pick it up if you haven’t already.

There were two Manga series I’ve really been enjoying, Dragon Head and Monster, but I couldn’t really figure out what category, if any, I could nominate them in. Are they reprints of foreign material? Original series? Continuing series? Reprint of archival material?
