Review of SHADOWLAND

The Comics Reporter reviews Kim Deitch’s SHADOWLAND

I’m really glad to see this review of Kim Deitch’s Shadowland–the first such review I’ve seen. Despite being a contemporary of many of the “big names” in underground comics, Deitch (and for that matter another favorite of mine, Jack Jackson) seems to often get swept under the rug. This collection of Deitch’s Al Ledicker stories and is as good, if not better than, his last big collection, Boulevard of Broken Dreams. This large format, nicely put-together volume is a definite must-have that’s so far been overlooked. Read the linked review for more info…

UPDATE: Just noticed that Dan Nadel has picked Shadowland as his #1 comic book of 2006. Says he:

Another masterpiece from Deitch, who, more than any other cartoonist working today, is in full control of the medium. This tragi-comic yarn is moving, terrifying and deeply deeply awe-inspiring. The man is a national treasure.
