I hesitate to call this a “comic strip” since it’s about 70% words (maybe “illustrated essay” would be more accurate) but whatever it is, it’s inked. This strip will appear in the Fall issue of Signal to Noise magazine, which is where my previous very wordy one-page music strip about Winston-Salem’s “5” Royales also appeared. Like the Royales strip, this one will be in full color, but I’m not going to post that until the magazine’s been out on the stands for a while so folks can have a chance to pick up the real live issue. This strip is also notable in that it includes the single worst caricature of William H. Macy ever committed to paper. What can I say–I’m up against a deadline here. (And since it says “William H. Macy” right above the panel, I guess I can get by with it…)

It’s not “Jose Do Espirito,” it’s “Jose De Espirito Sancto.”
kthxbye.

Well, how the heck am I supposed to squeeze that in!? I’ll find a way…
Damn! Bad typos! That’s “José do Espírito Santo.”
No “c” and you had the “do” right (Português, not Español!).
Sorry! Must need more caffeine.
That is an awesome informational comic. I like how comic Ben provides comic relief and ties the info together with the Tiny Tim gag to make it a “story”.
I get the same kind of cracks when I play harmonica. “Hey, why don’t you put cymbals between your legs and be a one man band?”
And the Macy caricature was actually pretty good!
I love this! I really enjoy my uke and I love William H. Macy and this comic portrays exactly how I feel. Good job!
Nice!

Thanks for the kind words, (and helpful corrections) all. I’ve got the strip colored now, but I’d totally forgotten how long it takes to color a page. I worked on it all day yesterday and just wrapped it up this morning. I’m uploading it as I type this. It’ll be a while, because I need to give the printed magazine time to be on the stands, but I’ll eventually post the colored version. -B.
Thought you might find this interesting (and relevant):

Would you mind if I were to hook a link up on my “Ukulele Funnies” page to your great one-pager?

Yeah, absolutely! Once the color version isn’t for sale on the magazine stands any more I can give you that if you want. Just lemme know…
