Wide Awake Press: INDIE ISLAND AT THE 2005 HEROES CONVENTION

J. Chris Campbell

The link above is a report on the recent Charlotte con, via J. Chris Campbell of Wide Awake Press, along with some pictures from the event. Regarding me, Chris relates the rarely told tale of my introduction to the facinating world of mini-comics:

Ben Towle tells Rob and me about the time he met old man Haversham up in the hills of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He showed Ben how to make mini-comics out of tree bark, twine and a pocket knife. Said he drew his comics in his own blood and kept them in mason jars buried in his yard. He even showed Ben a map he made pointing out the spots of all the jars. Thankfully Ben has a photographic memory and made a copy of the map when he got home. One day he says he’s gonna go back up there and dig up everyone of them mini-comics. That Ole Ben is such a crazy fella.

Goggles & Gloves: pg. 7

Here’s page seven. I had hoped to finish this story up before the San Diego convention, but it doesn’t look like that’s gonna happen…

Goggles & Gloves: Old Skool

I’ve still got three pages (I think) to go on the current “Goggles & Gloves” story I’m working on—written by Steve Ahlquist– but I’ve already begun ruminating on the next one, written by Chris Reilly. This next story takes place when the main character, Ray, is a lot older than in the first one and here’s a quick sketch I did of my aging Ray. I guess I should be finishing the first story before starting on the second one..but you know, “Never his mind on where he was. Hmm? What he was doing.” I’m imagining that by this point Ray has gone wireless with the goggles and gloves technology—in other words, I’m getting tired of drawing all those %#$@(@-ing cables!

From darkhorizons.com and the official comic-con site:

It’s true! They’re really here! An absolutely LIVE set by Tenacious D, comedians / musicians Jack Black and Kyle Gass. It’s the Greatest Band on Earth, soon to drop the Greatest Rock Movie on Earth, Tenacious D in “The Pick of Destiny”. Hall H

Oh, well…I guess I’ll have to miss out on the “Gays in Comics: Infinite Pride” panel, which is scheduled concurrently.
