New Bond Can’t Drive a Stick

You know, I really want to like this new Bond actor that’s been cast for the upcoming Casino Royale, but I was stunned to hear on the radio this morning that he had to be taught how to drive a manual transmission for the chase scenes in the film!  It’s bad enough that the modern Bond character doesn’t smoke or sleep around, but when the actor can’t even drive a Bond car, one loses hope…

Two Great Tastes That Go Great Together

Could coffee protect your liver against alcohol?

In the “Best News EVER” category:

Drinking coffee may shield the liver from the worst ravages of alcohol, a study of more than 125,000 people suggests. The risk of developing alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver dropped with each cup of coffee they drank per day.”Consuming coffee seems to have some protective benefits against alcoholic cirrhosis, and the more coffee a person consumes the less risk they seem to have of being hospitalised or dying of alcoholic cirrhosis,” says Arthur Klatsky at Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Programme in Oakland, California, US, who led the study….

Indy Panels at Heroes Con

The schedule of panels for Heroes Con is beginning to come together and is being posted at the Heroesonline site. Here are the two to which I’ll be contributing:

Friday at 3:00 pm:

How To Get Ahead In The World Of Indie Comics, Part One: Minicomics
Location: TBA
Last year’s panel on creating minicomics was such a big hit, we’ve expanded it to a series of panels. In this first installment of panels for the prospective cartoonist, we’ll look at how to create, distribute, and market minicomics. Moderator Andy Mansell will host Indie Island studs Jeffrey Brown, J Chris Campbell, Jordan Crane, Jim Mahfood, Andy Runton, Ben Towle, Steven Weissman, and Rob Ullman–good lord!

…and Saturday at noon:

How To Get Ahead In The World Of Indie Comics, Part Two: Anthologies And Other Avenues
Location: TBA
Continuing our series of panels focusing on how new and young cartoonists can try to make a splash in comics, we discuss not only how to best to get into an anthology, but the art of making them to boot. And who better to ask than Jordan Crane (Mome, Non), Chris Pitzer (Projects Superior and Telstar), and Ben Towle (Strange Eggs). This is sure to be a very educational panel for everyone, so be there! Moderated by Andy Mansell.

Hope to see folks there!

Take a Free Jung Test

Try it out here.

Here’re my results:

INTJ – “Mastermind”. Introverted intellectual with a preference for finding certainty. A builder of systems and the applier of theoretical models. 2.1% of total population.

Free Jung Personality Test (similar to Myers-Briggs/MBTI)

Yep, that’s me…(joking of course)

You can check out J. Chris Campbell’s results here.

Finally: Popeye

It looks like decent pressings of the animated Popeye cartoons are finally going to be released. I have to admit I have some mixed feelings about the animated Popeye–while the early Fleischer cartoons are great, they also adversely affected the newspaper strip, somewhat wattering down the Popeye charcter. At any rate, if it’s got the Fleischer stuff, I’ll probably buy it. The later stuff I don’t really care about–hopefully one doesn’t have to buy the whole deal just to get the 120 Fleischer shorts.
