Comics Drawing Workshop at Forsyth Central Library

I’ll be giving a two part workshop at the Forsyth County Central Library in downtown Winston-Salem tomorrow (7/17) and Wednesday (7/18) from 3:00 to 4:30 each day. Further details can be found on the library’s website. I believe the program is free and open to folks ages 13 and up, but registration is required (call 703-3080 to register).

I’ll be briefly discussing my own work, but mainly I’ll be introducing basic concepts about character design, panel and page layout,  some introduction to some basic cartooning tools and supplies, and some info on possible jobs in drawing in general or comics specifically.

Sketchbook 07/13

I’ve been ruminating a bit on my old character, Count Stinkula. I’m thinking maybe once Midnight Sun is wrapped up and the files are off to the good folks at SLG, I’ll perhaps return to the character for a quick 4-pager. In the story, tentatively titled “The Count is Emo,” a mopey, dressed-in-black, vampire-obsessed teenager attempts to summon a real vampire, and winds up drawing Stinkula forth from his earth-filled dumpster behind the Circle K. Once summoned, Stinkula declines to bite the kid on the neck and thus initiate him into the world of the undead, and instead decides to lounge around the unfortunate teen’s home, drinking his parents’ alcohol, raiding the fridge and generally making a pest of himself.

Sketching at Heroes Con

Thanks to friend and Heroes Con Creative Director, Dustin Harbin for forwarding me this photo from this year’s convention.  It was taken by James Sack, a creative director at a local Charlotte web design firm.  I believe the sketch here was being done for Ebony Looney.
