Yeah, sure, it’s not even April, but I’m gonna go ahead and call this upcoming Saturday’s (the 24th) show at The Garage<\/a> the local CLUB SHOW O’ THE YEAR. What’s on tap?<\/p>\n

First up, 44 Love<\/strong>. I know nothing about this band. But apparently no one<\/em> does. According to friend and longtime Winston-Salem music scene fixture, Doug Davis<\/a>, this is the band’s debut performance.<\/p>\n

Following that is local glam\/punk outfit, Ironhead<\/a><\/strong>. These guys (and I use the term loosely–the bass player is female) sound a little like old skool Cr\u00fce or Hanoi Rocks, with maybe a little Danzig or Mot\u00f6rhead thrown into the mix. Note that two of the four bands that immediately come to mind when considering Ironhead have umlauts in their names–that’s a sign of quality, folks. More modern musical analogs for these guys might be Birmingham, Alabama’s Smithwick Machine<\/a>, or maybe “Come Down Heavy”-era Thee Hypnotics. If there’s anything bad to say about this band, it’s that they don’t have an umlaut in their name.<\/p>\n

Finally, headlining, is Athens, Georgia’s Southern Bitch<\/a><\/strong>. These guys (again, using the term loosely for the same reason) probably get compared to the Drive by Truckers enough that they’re likely sick of it by now. The comparison is somewhat apt, but from what I’ve heard they’ve got more Skynyrd\/Nugent\/Blackfoot thing going on–with maybe some Stones thrown in for good measure. Modern analog? Hell, I dunno… Raging Slab?<\/p>\n
