Here’s some finished artwork from my forthcoming comic book Midnight Sun<\/strong> #1:<\/p>\n

I’ve still got six or seven pages left to pencil, so why am I inking and toning random pages right now? Because the book’s going to be published by SLG<\/a> who, apparently unlike most indy publishers, actually promote<\/em> their books and they’re already gearing up by putting together some flyer\/poster kinda things for the book!<\/p>\n

Not to turn this post into a full-on rant, but I remember when Farewell, Georgia<\/strong> was getting ready to be released, I wandered into my local comics shop<\/a> and mentioned that I had a book coming out and told them the name of it. The ower of the store had not only heard of it, but had received an email from SLG and, as I recall, had seen either seen a faxxed preview or seen a preview online. Meanwhile, my friend Ted Stearn, a vastly<\/em> better cartoonist than I, was set to release his next installment of Fuzz and Pluck<\/strong> on Fantagraphics…and you’d never know it if you didn’t know the man personally. The Fantagraphics site not only didn’t have any info about the book, but didn’t even have him listed on their roster of artists on the site. I mentioned to the shop owner that there was a new Fuzz and Pluck<\/strong> coming out and he said he loved the book but had no idea there was an upcoming issue…<\/p>\n

Moral (?) of the story? Being published by some fancy-schmancy arthouse publisher may get you some groovy cardstock covers and street cred with the Comics Journal message board crowd, but, frankly, who gives a damn if no one buys your book because no one knows it exists.<\/p>\n

Anyway, I’ve gotta get it in gear and finish the cover art to send off to SLG as well… Look for it in a couple of days.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
