Portrait Night 7/19 (The Minutemen)

It’s a “three-fer” for tonight’s #PortraitNight : D. Boone, George Hurley, and Mike Watt–better know as The Minutemen. You don’t see young wanna-be punks wandering around in Minutemen shirts, but as much as I love The Misfits, Black Flag, etc. I think The Minutemen were the best band of that era–and one of the best bands frankly of all time.

I’ve been into The Minutemen for a long time, but until recently (I watched We Jam Econo last year and I’m in the middle of Our Band Could be Your Life right now) didn’t know a whole lot about them. I’m really struck by what a profound character Mike Watt is. He makes incredibly astute observations but expresses them in deceptively-simple folksy down-to-earth language. He reminds me a lot of Sun Records founder Sam Phillips in this respect.

Anyway… The Minutemen:

The original art for this is for sale here.

Awesome portrait! Also, excellent observation about watt’s wisdom.
