I may be wrong–and please correct me in the comments if I am–but I believe this recent cover, the cover for Detective Comics #1029, is the first time a fan commission has (kind of) made it to the cover of an actual, published Marvel or DC book. So, re. “kind of,” some caveats: first, the …

Last Two “Oyster Tour” Appearances… and Commissions!
Oyster Tour Final Appearances The Oyster Tour is winding down! It’s been great fun, but I’m looking forward to being done with travelling and holing up in my studio here to work on In the Weeds. I do, though, have two more appearances before things wrap up: Heroes Con – Charlotte, NC – June 18th and …

Commission – The Dark Knight Returns
I haven’t been accepting as many commissions this year as I had been previously (wrapping up Oyster War has been getting precedence), but here’s a recent one that I think turned out nicely: Batman and Robin from the Frank Miller/Klaus Janson/Lynn Varley series The Dark Knight Returns. Once my “Oyster Tour” is wrapped up (not to …

MagnEmo!
One of the many concepts discussed on a recent Rachel and Miles X-Plain the X-Men podcast was that of “MagnEmo”–Magneto when he’s moody or emotional. Despite being just an offhand gag that was mentioned once then quickly forgotten on the show, it struck me as hilarious… so I had to do a visual interpretation. So, here he …

Recent Commissions
Here’re a few recent commissions I’ve done. From the top: Silver Surfer & Galactus, Kraven’s Last Hunt a la The Usual Suspects movie poster, and the original X-Men a la The Breakfast Club movie poster. Schedule-allowing, I’m usually available for commissions. Just contact me via email (link in the nav bar up top).

2013: The Year in Review
(On my drafting table, Jan 1, 2014: half-penciled Oyster War page 110.) Here’re a few parting thoughts on 2013: Oyster War The bad: I’d vowed this time last year to have Oyster War wrapped up in 2013. That didn’t happen. I am though, fairly close. I just posted the last page of Chapter 9, all …

Experimenting With Artrage: Paradax
I’ve been experimenting a bit with the digital painting program, Artrage. It’s a piece of software designed to emulate natural painting media as colsely as possible. So far I’ve just been focusing on its watercolor-like effects. Here’s my second attempt at “watercolors” in Artrage: Milligan and McCarthy’s 80s superhero/media star Paradax.

Commissions: Fantastic Four, MODOK
When it rains, it pours! I’m swimming in commissions these days… and I sure ain’t complaining about it. Here are some I just finished up today: The Fantastic Four and everyone’s favorite mental organism, MODOK. I had a lot of fun with the FF one in particular. They were one of my faves back …

Kang The Conqueror Commission
Here’s a commission I just wrapped up: Kang the Conqueror sitting on the “Iron Throne.” It was a lot of fun to do. That’s India ink and sepia wash on watercolor board. Live area is 10 x 15 inches. The person who commissioned the piece has a gallery of commissions with that same theme on …

Commissions: Silver Age JLA
Here’re some commissioned drawings I recently wrapped up: the Silver Age JLA. I read mainly Marvel stuff growing up and admittedly don’t know a whole ton about Silver Age DC stuff, but I really enjoyed doing these and I really gained an appreciation for these great costumes. I’m also pretty happy with the way these …
