Midnight Sun in “Graphic Novels Worth Owning”

Johanna Draper Carlson gives a nice review to Midnight Sun in her new column, Graphic Novels Worth Owning, mentioning it as one of the best books of 2007. Regardless of whether my own book were on this list or not, though, it’s just nice to see a “best of” list that’s actually at the end of the year. As mentioned in my earlier grousing, I understand the desire to get those lists together ASAP–not just so folks can refer to them for Christmas shopping, but also so comics reviewers can close up shop and get to holiday festivities like the rest of us–but doing these lists super-early can overlook some notable stuff.  Like Chris Ware’s Acme Novelty Library #18 for example; that’s an end of year release that I don’t think I’ve seen on anyone’s list, but probably should have been.  Anyway, also of note on ComicsWorthReading.com is the coolest comics-related Christmas gift I’ve seen so far: a hand-made Wonder Woman apron!

Thanks for the links! Just to clarify, my full best-of list will be appearing in January, as it should. :)

Hey Ben, it’s Rene of the SCAD years. I just read a newspaper article about the resurgence of comic books in the good old Birmingham News and whose name should be featured in it but YOURS! I googled your ass and here I am. I’m so excited that your book is coming out- and the day before my birthday. Rest assured it will be a gift to myself. I am so freakin’ proud of you that I can go to a bookstore and buy your book. (And in fact Barnes and Noble tells me I could buy two. I am ashamed of myself that I don’t have it already, but 2 times as proud of you.)

I also see from your site that you are expecting a baby. Congratulations! I had one of those myself about 15 months ago. Expect much fun ahead, if not much sleep for the first several months. I’m so happy to have found your site. Consider yourself bookmarked.
