Portrait Night 11/22 (David Lynch)

Tonight’s #PortraitNight drawing is Director (and musician now, apparently) David Lynch. Lynch’s films are well-known and his recent musical efforts are getting a fair amount of attention, but did you know he drew a comic strip for an alternative weekly in the 70s? David Lynch’s Angriest Dog In The World isn’t for everyone, but I find it really, really hilarious. It’s never been collected and only a few odd strips are scattered around online. Every strip begins with this:

The dog who is so angry he cannot move. He cannot eat. He cannot sleep. He can just barely growl. Bound so tightly with tension and anger, he approaches the state of rigor martis.

Hey, I can relate! I felt the same way when I heard that new Lou Reed/Metallica record. Here’s an example of the strip:

Anyway, here’s my drawing of him–based on a photo of him from the current Uncut magazine:

If you’d like to suggest a #PortraitNight subject, you can do so either via the comments section here, or via my Twitter.

I really think this is one of your best likenesses in the whole “Portrait Night” project. I’d have recognized him, even without being told.

@Isaac – Thanks! I was a little hesitant about all the Photoshop effects on it, but I think it turned out well also.
